Chris: On Wednesday we limited out on salmon early and started fishing for halibut up the inlet. We fought with currents for a while looking for a calmer spot. When we found one we were only set up for a while when I said to my dad, “This is feeling too rocky, I think we need to move”. Then he said, “Yeah, lets pull uuuuup. Whoa”. A big fish was taking him for a ride just that fast. It was a brute and I was trying to help but couldn’t figure out the righting tee. Finally, he was looking winded so I spelled him out. I got two good pulls and he shouted, “I see white”. And just like that he had his second wind. He took the pole back. We got him in the boat and it took up the whole floor of the boat. Biggest fish I’d seen in real life! Until we caught one 20 pounds heavier the next day!

Alan: We were trolling for pinks at the red rock. We were making a big circle so at the ends the lines would drop to the bottom. Just as we were coming out of a turn I got a strike that really took off. I thought it was a chum or a silver. When I got it to the boat it turned out to be a 15-pound halibut. So, we used the shark hook to land it and not the net.
