Our Story
The First Fishing Trip (written by Doc):
Sometime during 1981, an Explorer Scout leader, Richard, phoned me from Utah. He wanted to bring his scouts on an Alaska high adventure fishing camp-out.
At the time, I was working for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. I told Richard that if he brought the boys to Juneau, I would help arrange for the necessary equipment and suggest a place they could fish from shore, since neither they nor we had boats.
We arranged transportation for them to travel to the end of the road north of Juneau to Echo Cove. During the month of July when they would be at Echo Cove, a large school of
pink salmon were typically in the cove preparing to move into the streams to spawn. It would be easy fishing from shore…
Why Choose Us
Self-Guided Fishing
With you as the driver, your group can go where they want, when they want and fish for what they want. You can fish or view wildlife or just cruise around until dinner. Only your group will be in your boat, no strangers so you get to make all the decisions. Electronics on the boat have way points loaded to some of our favorite fishing grounds, but you can choose your own too. As a self-guided fisherman, halibut limits are more liberal. We process your fish and prepare it for you to take home at the end of the week.
Safe and Stable Boats
Almost all our fleet is Stabi-Craft. Stabi pioneered stability and safety on the ocean. Built in New Zealand, these boats were designed for water much rougher than what we see. Sealed air chambers, wide gunnels, comfortable seating, and fish storage are just a few of the amenities on these boats. We also provide electronics, fishing equipment, and all Coast Guard required equipment.
Full Orientation
Beginning on Sunday evening, orientation begins. Our friendly staff will make sure you know where your room is, issue your rain gear and boots and show you your boat. You will also have the opportunity to attend Fishing 101 for the latest fishing techniques. Boat orientation will include operation of the boat, anchor pulling and the many other features of our Stabi-Craft. Orientation continues Monday morning until you are ready to take the helm. Fish Chat is held Monday-Wednesday evenings for continued instruction.
Comfortable Accommodations
The rooms at Doc Warner’s come in a variety of configurations to best accommodate your group size. Couples, families, or friends; we have a room for you. All rooms have private bathrooms. All linens and towels, shampoo, conditioner, and body wash are provided. Most of the buildings have a common space where you can hang out in the evenings. The lodge and gazebo are also available for relaxing in the evenings. Breakfast and dinner are served cafeteria style with plenty of hot food. Our sandwich bar allows you to make your own lunch to eat on the boat or at the lodge.
