Life Around the Lodge

In our previous post, we talked about life at the lodge and what you can expect once you get to the lodge. In today’s post, we highlight life around the lodge.Juneau Shore

Your adventure at Doc Warner’s is about more than fishing, it’s about exploring Alaska. Our lodge is located in a beautiful inlet surrounded by lush greenery – a perfect host for nature walks, hikes, discovering plant life, photography, etc. You’ll find plenty to do while not on the water.

For those seeking adventure, considering hiking to a lake by the cannery. The hike is approximately 2.5 miles long and takes you on graveled road with an elevation gain of about 500 ft. The area is beautiful. The lake itself is cold, but has a rope swing for the brave. We recommend the hike as a fun complement to all the time you’ll spend on the water.

If you continue exploring around the lodge and cannery, you’ll find a small museum which features exhibits on WWII events that occurred in the area and the history of the cannery itself. You’ll also find a Russian Orthodox graveyard near the cannery. It is quite picturesque with both wooden and granite grave markers.

You also may want to consider exploring the beach in front of the lodge. You’ll find starfish, clams, mussels, sea urchins, eels, etc. We suggest going down to the beach at low tide and flipping over rocks to see what little critters you can find – you might even see a baby crab scamper away. And, don’t worry, there is nothing in the water that you would have to worry about.

Life right around the lodge is very peaceful and relaxing, so make the most of it during your stay with us.
