Pulling the Anchor

Our guests love the experience and freedom of driving their own boats and choosing their own fishing spots. A necessary skill for each driver to learn is pulling the anchor when ready to move. This video demonstrates the proper technique for using the boat to accomplish the task.

While you are more than welcome to retrieve the anchor by hand, remember that it weighs 27 lbs. and has a 10 lb. chain attached to it. Our guess is that you will be want to use the boat method early in the week, so we require each boat driver to demonstrate pulling the anchor with the boat method before leaving the dock. Our staff will work with you for as long as you need to make sure you are comfortable and confident.

Here are a couple reminders of what not to do with regards to the anchor:

First, never tie the anchor to the side or the back of the boat. You will run the risk of swamping the boat.
Second, never cut the anchor rope. If you are unable to pull the anchor, contact a chase boat or the lodge. We will come and assist you as soon as we can.
